UK Family History Research | Wiltshire Family History Specialists

Have you thought about researching your own family history?

Are you unsure about how and where to start?

I am an experienced researcher with ready access to many different resources, including several subscription websites. It is likely that I can achieve research results for you more quickly and at a lower cost.
However, I do understand that for some people, carrying out the research themselves is an important aspect to their family history journey.
If that person is you, I would be privileged to help you start that journey.

I offer a range of different tuition options to suit different learning preferences.
Tuition is provided in the West Wiltshire and Salisbury areas.Other areas of Wiltshire will incur additional travel costs.

For the beginner I recommend my 3 hour group introductory session (maximum of 12 people) where you will learn the basics of genealogical research. In this session we will focus on Civil Registration Records and Census Returns. It is important to get a sound grasp of the basics and to plan your research methodically. Cutting corners can result in many hours spent researching the wrong family. At the end of the session you will have an individual action plan to take away with you.

When you are ready to extend your family history research  2 hour follow on group sessions are available. These include the following topics

  • Military Records
  • Parish Records
  • The Poor Law and the Workhouse
  • Irish Research
  • Additional themed sessions are currently in development.

Introductory sessions are charged at £25 pp and follow on sessions at £20 pp.
All sessions include comprehensive notes, recommended website addresses and advice on how to make your research both cost effective and more successful.

If you prefer individual or small group tuition I am happy to provide that in your own home. Please contact me without obligation, to discuss your requirements.
